This 5×7 inch notecard features an absolutely charming image of Eastern Chipmunk, Charlotte Livingston, operating her hand crank sewing machine. On the back of the card the artist explains that Charlotte enjoys using her sewing skills to produce quilts for those in need. You can read Charlotte’s complete story below.
The inside of the card is blank so you might want to add something to Charlotte’s story and also to reach out to a friend to let them know you are thinking of them.
Here is Charlotte’s full story as told to the artist.
Copping Road wends its way along the shoreline, rising and falling with the landscape, cresting – when travelling from the east – at the second bluff. Here, in the brush and almost hidden from view, is a tiny knoll. And in that tiny knoll is an even tinier door. This is the home of Charlotte Livingston Eastern Chipmunk.
Inside, the whirr of Charlotte’s hand-crank sewing machine creates a song that ebbs and flows like water. She sits on an old stool perched in front of a large, round window looking out to the lake. Her beautifully gnarled yet nimble fingers move deliberately across the fabric as she finishes quilts for those in need before the cool weather arrives. Rogue lyrics roll around in her head in time with the sewing machine. Charlotte hums along, “Accroches-toi a ton r̻ve…Hold on tight to your dream….” and smiles knowing that she held tightly to her dream when it needed, but also knew when to hand it over to the world. She pauses, and pats her sewing machine softly: a thank you for allowing her to add her voice to the community, without even saying a word.
